All ages are welcome to get a sample of Call of the Sea’s Environmental Education sail! Collect water samples at different depths. See and feel the bay floor (benthic zone). Measure salinity, pH, and turbidity. Learn about the unique ecology of San Francisco Bay aboard the schooner Seaward.

Location

Schooner Seaward is docked at the US Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model Pier at 2100 Bridgeway in Sausalito, CA. Visitors can type “US Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model Visitor Center” into Google Maps for a driving route. Please do not use “Call of the Sea”, which directs visitors to our mailing address and our office address, not the boat. We recommend mapping your route to the US Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model Pier ahead of time to ensure on-time arrival for your sailing adventure.

What to Bring

It can be very cold on the water. If you bring warm layers and a windbreaker or rain jacket (if rain is in the forecast), you should be comfortable. Please wear closed-toe shoes, for flip flops and high heels are a safety hazard and are not permitted on the vessel. If you bring a hat, please check you are able to secure it in the wind. Many baseball caps are lost at sea.

Photos and Cameras

Please feel welcome to take photos and share by tagging us in social media. While sailing, you will be in a dynamic environment and exposed to the elements. Although it is rare to get wet on deck, please protect your equipment accordingly.

Cancellation Policy

Once you make your reservation online, you are confirmed and will receive a confirmation email. You may cancel up to 7 days before your sail for a full refund. Cancellations less than 7 days from scheduled sail are non-refundable. Refunds will not be issued for no-shows.

Inclement Weather

Seaward sails rain or shine, unless the captain decides that inclement weather will compromise vessel safety. Rain or a chance of rain does not mean that your sail will be cancelled. If the captain decides it is safe to sail and the client wants to cancel, the above cancellation terms apply.

Please note that Bay Area weather is characterized by microclimates, and that rain in one area does not indicate that it will be raining in Sausalito. Also, it is common for morning rain to clear up by late morning or early afternoon. Some of our best sails happen right after the rain!
