As Chair of the Board of Directors of Call of the Sea, April always feels like a moment of renewal. The longer days, steady winds, and vibrant activity on the bay signal the return of a season that defines who we are and what we do.

Spring is when our programs come fully to life. Students step aboard with curiosity and leave with a deeper understanding of the marine environment and their role within it. Sails are raised not just to move our ships, but to inspire awareness, stewardship, and connection. Each voyage is a reminder that learning is most powerful when it is experienced directly.

This group of students, from Hopland, CA, was sponsored by the Oceanic Society Conservation Scholars Program.  They enjoyed a 3-hour field trip on MATTHEW TURNER, and studied marine mammals, plankton, biofouling communities and ocean acidification.

This month also brings one of our most meaningful traditions—our annual Tall Ship Celebration. It is more than an event; it is a gathering of community, a showcase of our mission in action, and an opportunity to welcome new supporters aboard. Whether you are joining us on the water or from the shore, this celebration reflects the spirit and purpose of Call of the Sea.

As we look ahead to a busy season, we remain focused on expanding access—ensuring more young people, especially those who may not otherwise have the opportunity, can experience the transformative power of the sea. With your continued support, we are building not only memorable experiences, but a more environmentally aware and connected community.

Thank you for being part of this work and for helping us carry it forward.
