Call of the Sea Tall Ships Celebration Draws Hundreds to the Sausalito Waterfront

Sausalito, CA — Call of the Sea welcomed nearly 400 guests to its Tall Ships Celebration on Saturday, April 26, 2025, bringing the Sausalito waterfront to life with a joyful day of community, education, and maritime tradition.

The event featured tours of the majestic tall ship Matthew Turner, which saw more than 310 visitors come aboard—many for the first time. Guests were introduced to Call of the Sea’s hands-on educational programs, the inspiring stories behind our ships, and the unique wonders of the Bay Model. Both the Matthew Turner and the schooner Seaward set sail at full capacity, offering unforgettable experiences on the water.

Families gathered for a festive waterfront experience complete with delicious paella served by Davey Jones, live music from the Waterfront Pickers, and a special birthday serenade for our founder, Alan Olson. Throughout the day, interactive exhibits from our community partners helped bring the magic of marine science and the waterfront to life.

“This celebration was a true reflection of our mission to connect people to the sea,” said Executive Director, Carla Thorson.

“We were thrilled to see so many new faces discovering the wonder of our tall ships and the educational work we do.”

“Call of the Sea thanks all our partners, volunteers, and guests for making this event a resounding success. We look forward to welcoming even more people aboard in the months to come.”

Special thanks goes to sponsors Golden Gate Market, the Harbor Point Charitable Foundation, Modern Sailing, the Sausalito Sustainable Waterfront Association, and Woodside Fund for Education for their support.
