A Week of Sailing, Observing Wildlife, and Outdoor Adventure
What a summer it has been! Call of the Sea hosted 5 weeks of Summer Camp, where our campers spent their days outside, exploring the local environment, learning on the water, and building connections with the incredible wildlife and natural spaces right in their own backyard.
Campers enjoyed a variety of activities, including hands-on seamanship and sailing experience, working as a team to hoist the sails aboard Seaward and Matthew Turner. Our deckhand educators led the camp group in fun and informational workshops, such as knot tying, capitalizing upon the immersive sail experience to introduce related concepts in marine science and engineering. Observations of our incredible local wildlife included daily sightings of Brown pelicans, harbor seals and harbor porpoises, as well as a rare sighting of two Sea otters, and a jumping baby Thresher shark!
Our campers also channeled their creativity into various art projects, such as tie dye T-shirts and flag-painting, and burned off their afternoon snacks in daily activities such as group games, a jaunt to Schoonmaker Beach, or fishing off of the pier.
The Call of the Sea summer camp program hosts several events throughout the week with partnering organizations, including the Bay Model, Sea Trek, Spaulding Boatworks, and Sailing for Science Center. These partnerships enrich our summer camp experience, giving our campers a diverse and immersive week exploring the Bay across a variety of venues and perspectives.

Most importantly, we loved seeing campers grow in confidence and curiosity throughout the summer. Campers got to spend time with their friends as well as make new connections with peers, forging friendships and shared memories that will last a lifetime!
It was wonderful to see how much our campers enjoyed the experience—and even more wonderful to hear how excited they were to share their adventures with their parents when they got home each day. We’re grateful for a summer filled with discovery, connection, and time spent exploring the natural world together. Until next year!
