Our new Volunteer Coordinator, Roy Falk, retired from the telecommunications industry as an IT director. His work involving the start-up of new cellular businesses, gave him and his wife, Peanut, an opportunity to live in Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Taiwan and Brazil. Roy’s sailing experiences over past 45 years include three Transpac races, YRA season championships, Big Boat Series, Express 27 class one-design championship and several offshore yacht deliveries. Recently, Roy served as Officer of the Deck aboard the 151′ brigantine KAISEI on a 2,000 mile scientific voyage in the North Pacific.
With an interest in further serving the boating community, Roy has recently joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary where he is working on his Boat Crew and Coxswain qualifications. He is also training as a chef, which will give him opportunities to serve aboard Coast Guard Cutters on long deployments.
Roy says, “Working on the Matthew Turner project is a privilege which allows me to combine my love for the sea with my passion for serving others. This once in a lifetime opportunity, and I love my role at the Educational Tall Ship.”
